Children’s Book Author Visits The Book Vault
Children’s author Lisa Broadie Cook made a stop by The Book Vault today to read her new book, Peanut Butter and Homework Sandwiches to a gathered group of children. According to the description of the book, it’s about a boy named Martin MacGregor who is having a rotten week. You follow his troubles from when his dog actually eats his homework until he figures out how to get his homework turned in on time.
Cook, a resident of Boone, made the trip to not only read the book, but to also share her special guest, a tarantula. The tarantula had one admirer in the crowd. Jaylin Vanderwyel said her favorite part of the book was when the dog ate the homework. She also learned that the tarantula eats crickets, 12 of them a month to be exact.
The tarantula actually belongs to Cook’s sister, who is a science teacher. The spider used to spend the summers at their home, and in particular, the summer that Cook wrote her book. Since no book signing or reading would be complete without her, [the spider], Cook made a trip to Kansas City to borrow the spider for the day.
This is Cook’s third book. Cook said that her interest came in writing books because she “was always a reader.” Cook teaches second grade and has always loved children’s books.
Cook took her first shot at writing nearly 15 years ago, with her latest being available at the Book Vault or on their website. You can also visit Cook on her website HERE.
