Oskaloosa City Band Set To Play Thursday Evening

The Oskaloosa City Band during one of the weekly performances held June until August every Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
The Oskaloosa City Band will perform on Thursday night at 8 p.m. as the finale to Sweet Corn Serenade. The band has prepared a special concert this week and will be playing “Za-Ga-Zig’s”, more commonly known as “The Iowa Corn Song”. Follow the band while “Marching Down Broadway” with John Moss’ medley arrangement of “Hey, Look Me Over”, “Consider Yourself”, and “Seventy Six Trombones”.
You may feel transported back in time, with thoughts of a pre-historic family, when you hear “Meet the Flintstones”. Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” will remind listeners of the 70’s and Journey’s “Any Way You Want It” and “Don’t Stop Believing” will be our stop in the 80’s. Celine Dion attained worldwide fame with her music in the 1990’s. The band will play “The Power of a Dream”, which she performed at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympic Games.
The band will also play several Barnhouse publications, including Robert Sheldon’s “Brule River Celebration”, Andy Clark’s “A Salute To Freedom”, and James Swearingen’s arrangement of Karl King’s “Big Four” march.
And finally, Chuck Barnhouse recently commissioned a special arrangement to pay tribute to his friend, and long time musician, Stan Hahn. The band will perform “Greased Lightnin'” (written by David Shaffer) to serve as on an ongoing tribute to Stan and his music, just as he shared it during his 79 years of life.
