Vander Linden Announces Re-Election Plans

(OSKALOOSA) — Rep. Guy Vander Linden (R-Oskaloosa) announced today that he will be running for re-election in House District 79. After redistricting, District 79 is comprised of Western Mahaska County and portions of Marion County, including both Oskaloosa and Pella. Rep. Jim Van Engelenhoven, who would have been in the same district, announced his retirement plans earlier this month.

“Rep. Vander Linden has been a strong, conservative voice in the House,” said Speaker Kraig Paulsen. “He has done a tremendous job of serving his constituents well and working hard for them every day.”

Vander Linden is a graduate of the University of Iowa, the University of Southern California, the Marine Corps’ Command and Staff College and the National War College. He served in the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of Brigadier General.

During his military career, Vander Linden served as a Presidential Helicopter Command Pilot during the Reagan Presidency, command of a Marine Helicopter Squadron in the first Gulf War and command of the Naval Aviation Depot.

In the Iowa House, Vander Linden has focused on policies directed at putting Iowans back to work, reining in government spending and reducing the scope of government.

“We must get government out of the way and find bold approaches to giving employers the tools to get our state economy moving forward again,” said Vander Linden. “I look forward to continuing to work to improve Iowa’s business climate and helping employers put Iowans back to work.”

Vander Linden, who was first elected in 2010, serves as the Vice Chair of both the Veterans Affairs and State Government Committees. He also serves on Natural Resources and Ways and Means.

Vander Linden spends much of his free time volunteering in the community with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA and Trees Forever. He is the father of three grown children.
