Oskaloosa’s Municipal Water Department has been experiencing flooding from the South Skunk River. The Water Department along with Mahaska County Emergency Management have been working together to make sure that Oskaloosa and Beacon continue to have clean and SAFE water.

The Water Department has recently been in contact with The National Weather Service in Des Moines on the current status of the Skunk and predictions for future levels. The National Weather Service informed them of the high crest of 26.4′ at 2:15 AM Monday the 16th.

The Oskaloosa Water Department would like all residents to know that the water supply is in no immediate danger. If circumstances were to change, They along with Emergency Management will take the appropriate steps to notify all water customers through all means necessary. Chad Coon, General Manager of Oskaloosa’s Municipal Water Department stated “We would like to thank our customers for being both understanding and patient with us as we continue to deal with the current round of flooding. Please understand that we are doing everything necessary to ensure the ability to continue to produce the high quality product that you, our customers, have come to expect.”

There are contingency plans arranged, but HAVE NOT been implemented. If you have any further questions or concerns or need further information please contact Mahaska County’s Emergency Management website.
