Mayor Krutzfeldt Signs Arbor Day Proclaims April 29th As Arbor Day
On Monday, April 25th, Oskaloosa Mayor, David Krutzfeldt signed a proclamation at the request of the Oskaloosa Trees Forever organization declaring Friday, April 29th, as Arbor Day in Oskaloosa. The proclamation recognizes the many benefits that trees provide to citizens of Oskaloosa including cleaning our air and water, conserving our soil and energy resources, providing wildlife habitat and making the community a more pleasant place to live and work. The proclamation also encourages citizens to get involved in planting trees.
Oskaloosa Trees Forever is a volunteer organization headed up by President, Dr. H. G. Coen. The organization is also recognized by the City of Oskaloosa as the official tree board of the community. Oskaloosa is also recognized as a Tree City USA community, largely due to the efforts of the Trees Forever committee. The committee has been involved in the planting of more than 3,000 trees within the community over the past 19 years. Funding for the plantings has come from the many donations the organization receives.
Oskaloosa Trees Forever will celebrate Arbor Day by distributing Little Leaf Linden and Red Splendor Crabapple seedlings to the second grade students at Oskaloosa Elementary and the Oskaloosa Christian School. On Saturday, April 30th, members of Oskaloosa Trees Forever will also be assisting MCG with their 5th annual e-cycle event. Citizens are encouraged to bring their unwanted electronics between 8:00 AM and 12:00 noon to the MCG parking lot south of Hy-Vee for proper disposal. Additional Linden and Crabapple seedlings will be available on a first-come,
