High Scores Net Bronzes for Statesmen at Grand View Event
Des Moines–The Wiliam Penn cheerleading team put up possibly the biggest scores in program history as it competed at the Grand View Viking Challenge Sunday.
WPU finished third out of seven squads in the first round of competition with a score of 88.38 points. St. Ambrose won the opening battle with 94.25 points.
The navy and gold then improved on their score for the second bout, putting up 91.3 points to once again finish third out of seven programs. St. Ambrose was also the Round 2 champion with 96.6 points.
William Penn’s scores are believed to be the highest in school history, but unfortunately such records do not exist.
Competing team members included Omar Anderson (Jr., Lawrenceville, Ga., Business Management), Jaden Creech (Jr., Bloomfield, Iowa, Exercise Science), Lexie Current (Sr., Gilman, Iowa, Nursing), Avree Ebelsheiser (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nursing), Addison Hanners (So., Stillman Valley, Ill., Nursing), Caleb Hunter (Jr., Davenport, Iowa, New Media), Emma Hynick (Sr., Monticello, Iowa, Human Services and Sociology), Madi Langenfeld (So., Oswego, Ill., Education), Bryar Lish (Fr., Glenpool, Okla., Education and English), Grace McCumber (Jr., Manitou Springs, Colo., Nursing), Olivia Muir (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Psychology and Sociology), Katie Newberry (Fr., West Burlington, Iowa, Biology), and Jennie Robison (So., Moravia, Iowa, Exercise Science).
“Today was another great testament to what we are doing this season,” Head Coach Abby Reynolds said. “Two third-place finishes, and what I believe are the highest scores in program history…we have a lot to be proud of.”
“As we head into the next couple of comps before conference, we are going to really work on building more consistency with our routine and showing everyone who WPU cheer is,” Reynolds added. “We cannot thank everyone for all the support they brought.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Olathe, Kan. next Friday to compete in the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational.
