Statesmen Win Three Titles, Seven Additional Placers at Midland Open
Fremont, Neb.– The William Penn women’s wrestling team competed at the Midland Warrior Open on Saturday, crowning three Statesmen as champions while seven others placed and 13 wrestlers recorded at least one victory.
Kendall Bostelman (Sr., Napoleon, Ohio, Exercise Science) earned the 131-pound championship after posting a perfect 5-0 record, highlighted by two technical falls, two decisions, and a pinfall. She sealed the title with a 13-6 win over Larissa Kaz of Hastings.
138-pounder Ester Kolwale (So., Akure, Nigeria, Kinesiology) was crowned champion after posting a flawless 5-0 record. None of her matches went the distance, as Kolwale earned technical falls in every bout. She secured the title with a 10-0 victory over Hastings’ Raegen Gallaway in the finals.
Piper Fowler (Fr., Cleveland, Tenn., Psychology) became the third champion for the Statesmen, claiming the 180-pound title with a perfect 4-0 record. Fowler advanced on the right side of the bracket with two pinfalls, one technical fall, and one decision. Fowler clinched the championship with a 12-2 victory over Lindsey Wilson’s Katelyn Lewis.
Two Statesmen earned second-place finishes at the event. At 103 pounds, Lily Zapata (So., Lewisville, Texas, Sociology) claimed silver after posting a 2-1 record with one pinfall and one technical fall. At 124 pounds, Victoria Baez Dilone (Grad., Madrid, Spain, Master of Sports Management) finished 4-1 on her way to a runner-up finish, recording two pinfalls and two technical falls.
Tatiana Paragas (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Exercise Science) earned a third-place finish at 124 pounds after posting a 4-1 record with foul technical falls.
At 131 pounds, Tyler Swanigan (So., Northville, Mich., Exercise Science) placed fourth after posting a 3-2 record with one pinfall, one technical fall, and one forfeit victory.
Two Statesmen finished in fifth place, 145-pounder Jalyiah Gardner (Fr., Keokuk, Iowa, Business Management) finished 3-2, with one pinfall, one technical fall, and one forfeit win. 160-pounder Kylee Eastwood (Sr., Fontana, Kan., Undecided) finished 5-2, with three pinfalls and two forfeit victories.
Isabelle Hawley (Sr., Winchester, Calif., Sociology) earned a sixth-place finish at 138 pounds, after securing two wins by decision.
Three Statesmen did not place in the tournament but still recorded victories. At 131 pounds, Bronwyn Brenneman (Sr., Parnell, Iowa, Biology) posted two technical fall wins. At 138 pounds, Espie Almazan (So., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Political Science) claimed two pinfall victories. At 180 pounds, Diara Pomares (Fr., Hemet, Calif., Fine Arts and Business Management) earned her win via technical fall.
