Three Score Points at Grinnell Invite
Grinnell–The Statesmen women’s indoor track and field team recorded several strong performances Saturday as it competed at the Grinnell Invitational.
William Penn placed 10th out of 15 teams with 14 points, while Central won the crown with 178 points.
Adedoyin Aderibigbe (Fr., Cedar Hill, Texas, Sociology) posted the second-fastest preliminary time in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.84 seconds. She unfortunately did not participate in the finals.
Arabella Nepa (Fr., Clayton, Ga., New Media) was WPU’s highest scorer, finishing fourth in the high jump at 4-9, while Emmalee Wells-Stout (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles after producing a time of 9.88 seconds in the prelims (fifth place).
Claire Rye (Fr., Plymouth, Iowa, Biology) also ended up eighth, doing so in the 3,000-meter run in 11:10.16.
Hope Davies (Fr., Des Moines, Iowa, Political Science) was a two-time top-half finisher, taking 10th in the 200-meter dash (28.31) and 15th in the 60 (8.33).
Crystal Shaw (Fr., Austin, Texas, Applied Computer Science) became her team’s third high placer in the 60, finishing 11th in 8.21 seconds.
“We had a bit of a mixed bag, but we had some good technical executions,” Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said. “We saw our ladies fight for PRs, school records, and spots at conference. They saw where they were and what they need to work on heading into the next few weeks.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Maryville, Mo. next Friday and Saturday to compete in the Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Open.
