KOONCE, ROSE SET RECORDS AT GRADUATE CLASSIC

January 19, 2026

Lincoln, NE – Two school records fell at the Nebraska Graduate Classic for the Indian Hills Women’s Track & Field squad. As a program, the Warriors set nine top-10 all-time marks at the Devany Center Indoor Track.

Sophomore Tiffani Koonce (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) broke her own school record in the women’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:26.95, nearly seven seconds ahead of her previous best mark set as a freshman. Koonce’s mark now ranks fifth overall among all qualifying competitors in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Freshman Cindy Rose (Brown’s Town, Jamaica/Holmwood Technical) starred once again for the Warriors in a pair of events. Rose broke her own school record in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:56.50 to finish second overall, just 0.37 seconds behind the top overall finisher in the event. Rose added a third-place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:35.08, the second-fastest mark in school history.

Rose now ranks second in the nation in the 600-meter run this year and fourth overall in the 1,000-meter run.

The middle distance squads put together an all-around strong showing to go along with Rose and Koonce’s school records. Freshman Abby George (Albia, IA/Albia) placed sixth overall in the 600-meter followed right behind by sophomore Alexa Zanders (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West). The duo posted times of 1:35.64 and 1:37.19, respectively, the third and fourth-fastest times in program history.

Freshman Rebecca Duran (El Paso, TX/Chapin) etched her name into the Indian Hills record books with a pair of dominant performances. Duran produced a time of 5:23.44 in the women’s mile, the second-fastest mark in school history while her time of 2:22.20 in the 800-meter run was good enough for sixth overall for the Warriors.

Sophomore Shmyhia Morris (Memphis, TN/Whitehaven) added a pair of personal-best marks for the Warriors in the 800-meter and 1,000-meter runs. Morris’ times of 2:26.91 and 3:17.59 are both good enough for top-eight marks in program history.

Freshman Unique Redmond (Niceville, FL/Niceville) placed fourth overall in the women’s long with a mark of 5.29 meters while fellow freshman Asia Russell (Cedar Rapids, IA/Prairie) added an eighth-place finish in the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7.86.

The Warriors return to action January 23 with a pair of events – the Iowa State Cyclone Open in Ames, IA and the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, IA.
