First-Team Academic All-America Laurel to Putzier
Oskaloosa–Breck Putzier (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn., Exercise Science) was chosen as one of the top scholar-athletes in the NAIA as the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Men’s At-Large teams were announced Wednesday.
Putzier was one of 12 individuals named to the First Team, while an additional nine players from various sports collected Second-Team recognition.
Putzier was the NAIA’s most prolific offensive player this spring, leading the nation in goals (67), assists (75), and points (142). He also tallied 62 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers.
A First-Team NAIA All-American, Putzier was the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year as well. He is the 20th CSC Academic All-American in William Penn athletics history and the third this year.
The prestigious award from CSC (formerly College Sports Information Directors of America) recognizes athletes for their performances on the field and in the classroom.
To be eligible for the award, individuals must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been enrolled at the nominating institution for one year (transfers use grades from their previous institution), and have a 3.50 Grade Point Average. Additional competition criteria is also required.
