Special Election Announced for Oskaloosa’s Fourth Ward City Council Seat
OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Following the recent resignation of Steve Burnett, the City Council of Oskaloosa, Iowa, has announced plans to hold a special election to fill the now-vacant Fourth Ward City Council seat. The election is scheduled for April 2nd, 2024, setting the stage for candidates to step forward in the coming weeks.
The vacancy, resulting from Burnett’s resignation, has prompted the City Council to opt for a special election to ensure that the Fourth Ward constituents continue to have their chosen representation. The polling for this election will take place at the former YMCA building located at 414 North 3rd Street, allowing residents of the Fourth Ward to cast their votes and have a say in their representation on the City Council.
Prospective candidates looking to fill the vacancy must adhere to specific filing requirements, including the submission of an Affidavit of Candidacy and a Nomination Petition, which must be backed by at least ten signatures from eligible voters. The Mahaska County Auditor’s office is the designated location for filing these documents, with a deadline set for March 8, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
