Hafner, Galeazzi Tie for 15th at Crazy Horse Challenge

Hutchinson, Kan.–The William Penn men’s golf team hit the road for the first time on the young season and finished in the middle of the standings at the Crazy Horse Challenge Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Statesmen placed fifth out of 11 teams with a three-round score of 930 (304-317-309) at the par-72 Crazy Horse Sports Club Golf Course. Iowa Western CC earned the team title at 901 (304-297-300).

Oscar Hammar of Bethany (Kan.) won the individual medalist honor at two-under 214 (70-73-71).

Austin Hafner (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management) and Luke Galeazzi (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) led the navy and gold in the 69-player field as they tied for 15th at 231. Hafner posted scores of 74-78-79, while Galeazzi turned in cards of 74-82-75.

Trace White (Sr., Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Physical Education) was close behind in a tie for 26th at 238 (76-84-78), while Andon Herrera (Fr., Katy, Texas, Business Management) tied for 36th with a final tally of 242 (80-76-86).

Jonathan Jarvis (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Business Management) wrapped up the varsity scoring at 245 (87-81-77) to tie for 38th overall.

WPU had a pair of individuals on the links as well. Diego Ramirez (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz., New Media) carded a 259 (85-89-85) to tie for 53rd, while Logan Olson (Fr., El Paso, Texas, Engineering) placed 57th at 265 (92-85-88).

“You win or you learn,” Head Coach Elise Warne said. “We played in a good field again this week. The course was a good challenge and showed where we need to work on our game. Course management and consistency off the tee will be our main focus over the next couple of weeks.”

“This is a super talented team and I am excited to see them progress over the fall,” Warne added.

Next Up: William Penn takes two weeks off before returning to action on September 25-26 as it travels to Council Bluffs to compete in the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase. Play will be contested at Bent Tree Golf Course.
