Johnson Qualifies, Moeller Wins Twice at SAU Bumble Rumble

Davenport–The William Penn track and field teams added another national qualifier and won four total events as the Statesmen competed at the St. Ambrose Bumble Rumble Friday.

The WPU men were second out of 11 teams with 88 points, while Olivet Nazarene won the crown with 147 points. The Statesmen women were sixth out of 12 teams with 35 points, while ONU completed its title sweep with 203.5 points.

Showalter Johnson (Fr., Nassau, Bahamas) gave the Statesmen men their fourth national qualifier as he hit the ‘B’ standard with a winning 60-meter dash time of 6.91 seconds.

Justin Moeller (Jr., Keota, Iowa, Psychology) and Loubert Dagrin (So., Miami, Fla., Sociology) were event champions Friday as well. Moeller did it twice, sweeping the horizontal jumps with a long jump of 22-9.75 and a triple jump of 44-3.25.

Dagrin also took the gold in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.48 seconds (8.13 in prelims).

Torian Kingston (Sr., Queens, N.Y., Sports Management) and Brandon Williams (Fr., Fountain, Colo., Civil Engineering) both managed silvers with Kingston running the 200-meter dash in 22.42 seconds, while Williams finished the 800-meter run in 2:03.28.

Joel Brown (Sr., Columbus, Ga., Engineering Technology) was William Penn’s next-best 60-meter dash sprinter, placing third in 7.04. He was also eighth in the 200 (23.38).

Nick Richardson-Jackson (Sr., Germantown, Md.) finished in the top 10 in both sprints as well, taking fifth in the 200 (22.92) and sixth in the 60 (7.12). Jaelen Love (Sr., Crown Point, Ind., Secondary Education) was also in contention in the 200 with a fourth-place effort of 22.74 seconds.

Tom Nyandoro (Fr., Wake Forest, N.C., Computer Science) and Jonah Heckenberg (So., Stockport, Iowa, Business Management) each placed fifth Friday. Nyandoro accomplished the feat in the triple jump (41-10), while Heckenberg completed the 1,000-meter run in 2:42.12.

DaMonte Sherod (So., Florissant, Mo., Mechanical Engineering) was strong in the 800 (7th, 2:08.31), while the 4×400-meter relay team just missed scoring points with a ninth place in 3:39.02.

Jamiah Foster (Fr., Rantoul, Ill.) notched a pair of top-half placings as he was 13th in the 400-meter dash (55.20) and 15th in the 200 (24.19). Jeremiah Conteh (So., Shorewood, Wis., English) guided WPU in the throws, ending up 14th in the weight throw (38-9.5).

Raven Williams (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) topped the women’s crew with a pair of top-10 performances, most notably finishing second in the 200 (27.16); she was also ninth in the 60 (8.36).

Bronze showings came from both Katherine Hunter (Sr., Bloomfield, Iowa) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.88) and Delana Jordan (Jr., Addison, Texas, Business Management) in the 1,000 (3:43.45).

Danisha Washington (Sr., Peoria, Ill.), in fourth (8.10), and Breana Roberts (Jr., Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Biology), in fifth (8.12), were also near the top of the leaderboard in the 60. Kyleigh Guthridge (Jr., Bondurant, Iowa, General Accounting) was a point-getter in the high jump as well, hitting a mark of 4-9 for seventh place. The 4×4 squad claimed fifth-place points in a time of 4:21.86.

Although neither scored, the sprinting duo of Tabitha Rogers (Fr., Venice, Calif.) and Alexandra Rose (So., Quincy, Ill.) each finished in the top half on two occasions. Rogers was 13th in the 200 (28.88) and 15th in the 60 (8.53), while Rose was 13th in the 60 (8.44) and 22nd in the 200 (29.64).

“Adding another qualifier and getting some new PRs by several mid and distance runners really sets us up well getting ready for the conference meet,” Head Coach Allen Friesen said.
