The Oskaloosa Indian 7th grade gridders kept their perfect season in tact as they rolled the Cardinals in the A game on Tuesday evening in Newton. The Indians played a brand of physical football that couldn’t be matched by the opponent. The young Indians also brought literal meaning to four yards and a cloud of dust as they were able to run the ball at will on the dry, dusty grass field in Newton. The Indians scored once in the second quarter, twice in the third quarter and once in the fourth quarter. Vincent Ramirez scored three times on runs following nice blocking from Cole Jansen, Geoff Fogle, and Izaya Strait. Calvin Silvers added the final score on a reverse play from 20 yards out. Alex Chapman scored on a 55 yard punt return, but the play was called back due to penalty. Oskaloosa failed to score on any of the 2 pt conversions. Defensively the Indians were strong all game except for the first two plays where they gave up big yardage but then a goal line stand turned things around. Jacob Kime led the defensive attack with 2 sacks and nice outside containment. Leading the defensive charge up the middle were Blake Van Veldhuizen, Vincent Ramirez, Richard Phillips, and Keaton DeKock.

Oskaloosa lost the B game 36-0 and the C game 8-0 as they couldn’t get anything going offensively. The offense turned the ball over twice which led to two Newton scores. Oskaloosa received great efforts from Zach Begley, Dylan Simmons, Shane Hoven, Tristan Marks, Hunter Sheets, Korey Shepard, and Jarret Vandenberg in the B and C games. Next up the Indians face a challenge from a physical Knoxville team. Oskaloosa will have to play their best game of the year to beat the panthers at their place next week. Game time is 4:30 at Knoxville on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Come and cheer the young Indians on as they try to move to 5-0 on the year.
