#7 Story of the 2011-2012 Year

At #7, the Statesmen gridiron team took another step forward in 2011.
William Penn finished the year at 9-2 (5-2 Midwest League), just narrowly missing the playoffs for the second year in a row. But as every experienced traveler knows, the journey is just as important as the destination.
The Statesmen may not have reached the postseason, but its 2011 campaign was packed with mile-high moments. One of the greatest came on October 3 when the navy and gold jumped to a program-best ranking of #4 in the NAIA. A disappointing ending will not diminish the following 2011 achievements:
–The team paced the NAIA with 3,634 rushing yards
–William Penn ranked in the top ten nationally in 15 categories, including great defensive marks for scoring (11.3), and rushing (89.1 yards)
–21 players and one assistant coach were honored on the all-Midwest League teams
–Defensive tackle Damon Harrison signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets
–The team’s 26 wins over the past three years were the second most for that span of time in program history
