2011 Southern Iowa Fair Kicks Off
Oskaloosa, Iowa – With temperatures of 100 degrees not an uncommon sight on local bank clocks, the Southern Iowa Fair in Oskaloosa officially opens at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.
If your planning on coming to the fair, keep in mind that we are still under an Excessive Heat Warning that can cause problems for those with health issues. Prolonged exposure makes even the smallest illness seem to get worse.
Mahaska County Emergency Manager Jamey Robinson said, for those planning on attending the fair, “I would recommend drinking plenty of water before coming, bringing plenty of water with you, knowing your limitations, and to seek medical attention if you feel like you’re suffering from the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion.”
The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Auxiliary trailer is equipped as a first aid and cooling station; courtesy of Mahaska County Emergency Management. The trailer is located just West of the Fairgrounds office.
