2 Grinnell players named to D3baseball.com All-Region Team

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Sam Galanek ’18 and Andrew Shults ’19, recently named to the All-Midwest Conference Team, added to that honor by being selected to the D3baseball.com All-Central Region Team.

Galanek was named a third-team catcher and Shults a third-team outfielder.

Galanek established the Grinnell school record for career sacrifice flies with 16 and set season marks for games played (38), at bats (151) and fielding percentage (1.000). He ranked in the league’s top 10 in batting average (.371), slugging percentage (.570), hits (56), RBIs (50), doubles (15), homers (5) and sacrifice flies (4).

Shults set Grinnell records for games played with 38, stolen bases with 27 and fielding percentage at 1.000. The outfielder ranked among the MWC leaders in stolen bases, on-base percentage (.497), runs (45), hits (51), batting average (.370), walks (26), hit by pitch (11).

Michael Mateja and Rob Marinec of North Central (Ill.) were named Central Region Player and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Josh Howard of Washington University was tabbed Pitcher of the Year and the University of Dubuque’s Paul Wyczawski the Coach of the Year.
