WPU Ties for Second Time in 2026
Oskaloosa–Despite scoring first and finishing with more than twice as many shots as its foe, the William Penn women’s soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 tie against William Woods in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Saturday.
WPU (5-5-2, 2-4-2 Heart) held a 14-6 edge in shot attempts, including a 10-4 margin in shots on goal, but could not come away victorious.
On a hot and windy day at Drost Field with unseasonably-high temperatures reaching the upper 80s, neither side could find the goal through the first 29 minutes. Then just like that, one second into the 30th minute, Hadley Wolfe (Fr., Fort Madison, Iowa, Elementary Education) gathered a pass from Amerie Osorio (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev., General Accounting) and blasted it into the netting as William Penn went up 1-0.
The navy and gold stayed on top through intermission, but unfortunately the Owls (4-6-1, 2-5-1 Heart) evened the match at the 54:08 mark.
The Statesmen dominated the second stanza (9-2 advantage in shots), and even had a chance to take the win in the final six seconds of action. Unfortunately, the indirect kick opportunity was thwarted and the squads walked off the pitch with a draw.
Savannah Putman (Grad., Layton, Utah, Master’s of Sports Management) allowed just one goal, while posting three saves. Wolfe and Sian Bah (Sr., London, England, Political Science) both ended up with a team-high three shots.
“We lacked a lot of ideas in the attacking third of the field, and struggled to create clear chances,” Head Coach Kaleb Preston said. “We also left it a bit too late in the game to deserve anything more than a draw.”
Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa next Tuesday to host Missouri Valley in Heart play at 5 p.m.
