WPU Theatre Department To Present ‘Taming Of The Shrew’

William Penn University

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The William Penn University Theatre Department will be presenting William Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” on April 19, 20, and 21, on the George Daily Auditorium stage. The play will be done “in the round” with audience members seated on stage surrounding the performance. This will create a more intimate Shakespeare experience for both the audience and the actors.

“Taming of the Shrew” is a comedic play that recounts the story of a young bachelor’s (Lucentio) attempt to court a fair maiden (Bianca). Lucentio’s efforts are thwarted when he learns that in order for him to marry Bianca, her older sister must be married first. The older sister, Katherine, has a sharp tongue with a quick temper that scares almost all suitors away. Fortunately for Lucentio, Petruchio is not scared so easily. Petruchio is on the hunt to find a maiden with a large dowry. His wishes are answered when he meets Katherine. Lucentio continues to court Bianca while Petruchio tries to “tame the shrew”.

All are invited to support this small group of talented thespians as they perform this fun and light-hearted story. Performances will be Thursday and Friday, April 19 & 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m.
