WPU Takes Runner-Up Spot at Five Seasons Classic

Cedar Rapids, Iowa–The Statesmen women’s bowling team finished higher than every squad except the hosts as it competed at the Five Seasons Classic Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed second out of 16 teams with 8,928 pins in five regular games and 20 Baker games. Host Mount Mercy led the field with 9,451 pins.

Each regular game as well as each four-game Baker set featured a head-to-head matchup against another program. In the head-to-head competitions, the Statesmen tied for third with a 7-3 record.

Kennedy Reindl of Morningside led the individual standings with 1,129 pins in five games for a 225.8 average.

Alyssa Tanner (So., Traverse City, Mich., Sports Management) headed WPU by taking 15th with a 203.0 average (1,015 pins).

Brianna Thompson (Sr., Campbellsport, Wis., Psychology and Sociology), at 196.2, and Sophia Best (Fr., Redford, Mich., Elementary Education), at 185.2, also started all five rounds.

Hannalee Songer (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, General Accounting) owned her crew’s best average at 210.3 over the span of four games, while Macyn Huston (Jr., Durant, Iowa, Elementary Education) owned a 172.3 average in four starts.

Ashley Gorman (Jr., Stillwater, Minn., Exercise Science) averaged 167.5 pins in two rounds to complete William Penn’s scoring.

WPU also had a JV team on the lanes; the squad finished fourth out of nine teams with 7,889 pins. Jayden Montgomery (So., Sigourney, Iowa, Secondary Education) paced the reserve group with a 197.4 average in five games.

“The ladies had a great weekend all-around,” Head Coach Kirstin Foster said. “Our varsity went up against half of the conference, and showed that they are true contenders. While some of our matches did not go the way we wanted, we made the other teams work for the win.”

“Our JV team had their first tournament this weekend, and performed great as well,” Foster added. “They handled the atmosphere well and were keeping pace with some varsity teams in attendance. We will continue to work to be even more prepared for our next tournament.”
