WPU Tackles Seminole Valley Stampede

Cedar Rapids– The Statesmen cross country teams traveled to compete in the annual Seminole Valley Stampede Saturday, hosted by Mount Mercy.

The William Penn men’s team finished in eighth place out of 15 teams in the 8K race with a point total of 209. Grand View took the team title with 43 points, while Nolan Rudd of Saint Ambrose took the individual medalist honors with a time of 25:15.

Vernon Trozzi (Jr., Hesperia, Calif., Exercise Science) led the Statesmen once again with a 24th-place finish in 27:12, while Brandon Williams (Fr., Fountain, Colo., Civil Engineering) followed closely behind with a 36th-place finish in a time of 27:58.

Jonah Heckenberg (So., Stockport, Iowa, Business Management) placed 49th with a time of 28:28, Ruben Perez-Rodriguez (So., San Antonio, Texas, Business Management), was 59th at 28:45, and Axel Vazquez (Jr., Wray, Colo., Sports Management) finished the team scoring with a 72nd-place finish at 29:02.

The Statesmen women were unable to post a team score in the 5K bout. Missouri Baptist raced away with the team title after scoring 52 points, while Grand View’s Morgan Lawson took the individual title with a time of 18:35.

Delana Jordan (Jr., Addison, Texas, Business Management) led the Statesmen with a time of 22:11 and a 64th-place finish, while Michaela Kmiec (Jr., Centerville, Texas, Exercise Science) finished closely behind in 70th place with a time of 22:26. Rounding out the remaining navy and gold runners were Talaysia Douver (Sr., Lakewood, Calif., Sociology) (24:11, 94th) and Roselaure Fuller (Fr., Pella, Iowa, Nursing) (25:34, 110th).

What’s Next: William Penn takes a two-week break to rest and recover before shipping off to Atchison, Kan., to compete in the Benedictine Challenge.
