Addison, Ill.–The Statesmen men’s bowling team returned to action in a big way Saturday and Sunday by posting a top-10 effort at the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic.

William Penn was sixth out of 72 teams at the Tier 1 tournament with 9,060 pins in five regular games and 20 Baker games. Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) won the event with 9,561 pins, while Casey Cohagan of Notre Dame (Ohio) was first in the 536-person individual portion of the event with a 238.6 average.

WPU was quite strong in regular action (12th place), but really stepped up in Baker play by improving six positions.

Three Statesmen broke the 200-pin average, led by Rok Kostric (Fr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) who was at 208.2.

Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) was right behind him at 206.0, while Nick Walker (Jr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) was also in the mix at 204.0. Sean Martin (Fr., Dayton, Ohio, Mechanical Engineering), who posted a 193.4 clip, joined the trio by also starting all five games.

David Decker (So., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) rolled in three games with a 197.7 average, and Quincy Bruce (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, General Accounting) averaged 169.5 pins in two starts.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Erlanger, Ky. on February 3 to compete in the Norse Classic. The team then ventures to Lexington, Ky. the following day to battle in the Eagle Classic.
