Addison, Ill.–If last weekend’s event was any indication of things to come, it should be a productive second half of the season for the Statesmen women’s bowling team as it competed at the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed 14th out of 53 teams at the Tier 1 competition with a nine-game tally of 8,186 pins. Wichita State (Kan.) won the event with 9,488 pins, over 400 more than runner-up Grand View.

Daria Kovalova of Wichita State was the individual champion with a 233.0 average (2,097), while Kirstin Newberry (Sr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education) narrowly missed the top 20 by taking 21st at 195.8.

Kelsey Johnson (Jr., Montgomery, Ill., Secondary Education) was next with a 190.8 mark. Stephanie Adams (Fr., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management), at 185.8, and Montana Pence (Fr., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education), at 184.2, also started all nine games.

Niona Bruce (Fr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sociology & Psychology) made her collegiate debut with a 156.8 average in five games.

MacKenzie Boyd (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education), at 156.5, and Blair Farris (So., Washington, Iowa, Elementary Education), at 140.0, split the final four games in which WPU competed.

Next: William Penn takes a week off before returning to action February 1-2 at the McKendree Baker Challenge in Fairview Heights, Ill.
