WPU Halted by Peru State in Regular Season Finale

Peru, Neb.—The Statesmen finished off their regular season schedule with a trip to Peru, Nebraska to take on Peru State in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

William Penn (19-15, 6-12 Heart) dropped the match to the Bobcats (12-19, 8-9 Heart) in five sets (25-13, 24-26, 23-25, 25-14, 15-13).

The visitors were outhit by Peru State .213-.124. The navy and gold posted a .217 clip in the third set, marking their best output of the night.

Three Statesmen hitters reached double-digit kill totals. Danielle Pendzinski (Jr., Winnebago, Ill., Elementary Education) and Corrin Lepper (Fr., Jefferson, Mo., Biology) each posted 14 kills while Jordan Carter (Sr., Sigourney, Iowa, Elementary Education) posted 11 kills. Pendzinski was the most efficient out of the trio, hitting at a .294 clip.

Marie Garcia (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii, Communications) had 22 assists, her second highest total on th season. Elena Lucero (Fr., Yuba City, Calif., Political Science) was also solid in the two-setter formation finishing with 18 assists on the night. Lucero also posted 10 digs in the match.

Aside from Lucero, three other members of the William Penn defense reached double-digit dig totals. Ashley Miller (Sr., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) led the way with 35 digs. Haley Vampran (Sr., Fort Worth, Texas, Exercise Science) and Casi Gacusana (Jr., Kea’au, Hawaii, Biology) chipped in with 16 and 11 respectively.

Next Up: WPU will await Monday’s results to determine whether or not they will play Wednesday in the play-in round of the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament.
