Drake takes down Central in men’s basketball exhibition

DES MOINES – Travelling to the Knapp Center Wednesday night, the Central College men’s basketball team fell 101-48 in the team’s final exhibition.

While Wednesday’s contest was an exhibition for the Dutch, it counted as a season-opening win for the Bulldogs.

Central used all 19 players, with none getting more than 20 minutes of floor time. Eight players made their debuts on the varsity roster.

Forward Anthony Gott (junior, Davenport, North Scott HS) was the leading scorer with eight points. Freshman forward Gilbert Flagel (Pella, Pella Christian HS) chipped in seven.

Boaz Clark (junior, Story City, Roland-Story HS) was the leading rebounder, registering four off the bench. Owen Schipper (junior, Waukee) and Carson Jones (junior, Elkhorn, Neb., Creighton Prep) each had two assists. Flagel and Kyle Cason (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) added two steals apiece.

Central will start the regular season next Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
