WPU Finishes Season Sweep of Faith Baptist Bible
Point Lookout, Mo.–With ten players lighting up the scoreboard, the Statesmen men’s basketball team claimed a 116-48 non-conference win over Faith Baptist Bible Monday.
Thirteen days after beating the Eagles in Oskaloosa, #18 William Penn (10-3) reached double-digit wins for the 13th-straight season by outshooting its foe 55.2%-33.9%.
Faith Baptist Bible (4-1) tallied the night’s first two points, but WPU rattled off a 23-3 run and never looked back, eventually going up 59-25 at halftime. In a contest that featured just seven free throws (WPU was 2-for-3), the navy and gold hit 18 three-pointers (ten in the second half) to hit the century mark for the sixth time this season.
Highlighted by six trifectas, Alec Schwab (Sr., Peru, Ill., Business Management) continued his torrid scoring pace with a game-high 28 points. Shane Bosek (Jr., Lowry, Minn., Physical Education) was next, tallying his third double-double of the year with 23 points and ten rebounds. The visitors held a 44-29 rebounding edge, good for a 13-5 mark in second-chance points.
Davion Scott (Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Secondary Education) was excellent off the bench, going 6-for-7 (4-for-5 3-PT) for 16 points in only 12 minutes of play.
Kelly Madison (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa, Physical Education) also hit the double-figure mark with 15 points in addition to a team-high seven assists.
Nick Jeffries (Fr., Altoona, Iowa, Exercise Science) and Jesse Utt (So., Cowgill, Mo., Industrial Technology) both tallied eight points, while Mike Aldeman (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa, Education) and Oliver Wells (Sr., Cedar Hill, Texas, Business Management) posted six-point efforts. Wells and Jeffries produced four steals each as William Penn forced 29 turnovers which were converted into 42 points.
“We were sharp tonight from start to finish,” Head Coach John Henry said.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Point Lookout, Mo. to face College of the Ozarks in non-conference play at 7:30 p.m.
