Oklahoma City, Okla.–The Statesmen men’s golf team concluded its fall season by adding some more supporting evidence to its claim that it should be a top-25 program as it competed at the Southern Plains Intercollegiate hosted by Oklahoma City Monday and Tuesday.

William Penn placed sixth out of 13 teams with a three-round score of 941 (316-320-305) at the par-72 Gaillardia Country Club.

#3 Texas Wesleyan won the event with ease at six-over 870 (294-296-280), highlighted by producing the top three golfers in the field. Rowan Lester of TWU was first out of 70 players at three-under 213 (73-70-70).

#1 Oklahoma City was second, while #4 Johnson & Wales (Fla.) placed third, and #7 Wayland Baptist (Texas) was fourth.

While the navy and gold were not able to defeat one of those top-10 programs, they did knock off three squads receiving votes in the national poll, including #39 Morningside, #41 Marian (Ind.), and #42 Bellevue (Neb.).

Zachary Chegwidden (So., Essex, England, Business Management) headlined William Penn’s effort as he finished in a tie for 12th at 230 (78-73-79), just six strokes from the top five.

Sebastian Rulis (Sr., Helsingor, Denmark, Business Management) was also in the top 20, tying for 20th at 233 (78-77-78).

Frederik Lundsgaard (Sr., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) (78-81-76–235) ended up in a tie for 28th, while Peter Frederiksen (Sr., Hornslet, Denmark, Mechanical Engineering) tied for 57th at 253 (88-89-76).

Zach Swink (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Sociology) did not post a second-round score, but performed well his other two times out with an 82 and a 75.

William Penn will find out how impressive its fall campaign looked to the national raters Friday as the second NAIA top 25 will be released.
