Wisconsin Dells, Wis.–The Statesmen women’s basketball team could not end its losing streak Thursday, falling 61-46 to Ashford in the conclusion of the Wisconsin Dells Tournament.

William Penn (5-8) was in the game throughout the first 30 minutes, including trailing by just one with nine-plus minutes on the clock. The teams unfortunately went in opposite directions from there as the Saints (7-4) outscored the navy and gold 16-2 down the stretch.

After holding a 52.2%-36.4% shooting edge in the first half, WPU went frigid in the second stanza (24.0%) to narrowly be outshot 37.9%-37.5%. That, in addition to 18 turnovers (eight for AU), sunk the Statesmen. William Penn did manage a 31-30 mark in rebounds.

Janay Pritchett (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Biology) paced the offense with 20 points, while Alyssa Phillips (So., Gurnee, Ill., Communications) also joined the double-digit club with ten points. Jessie Kreuser (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn., Physical Education) contributed eight points in the setback.

Katie Golomski (Sr., Milwaukee, Wis., Psychology & Sociology) pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and also dished out three assists. Kreuser tallied three blocks and Pritchett stole two passes.

“We were not good at all today,” Head Coach Mike Brown said. “We have very little juice left. We need a break and need to reevaluate.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Milwaukee, Wis. on Monday and Tuesday, December 29-30 to compete in the Cardinal Stritch Holiday Classic. On Monday, the Statesmen play host #6 Cardinal Stritch at 4 p.m. and then on Tuesday they meet Holy Cross (Ind.) at 2 p.m.
