WPU Competes in Numerous Meets in Final Prep for Conference
Indianola/Des Moines–The William Penn women’s track and field team hit a trio of venues over the last few days as it prepared for the league championship.
The Statesmen put athletes into action at the Simpson Kip Janvrin Open, the Grand View Viking Classic, and the prestigious Drake Relays.
Simpson Kip Janvrin Open
Erica Martin (Sr., Detroit, Mich., Sports Management) guided the navy and gold with a win in the shot put at 43-9.75.
Phoebe Burt (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa, Sociology) also threw well as she claimed bronze in both the shot put (38-9.75) and the discus (132-3).
Vashansti Glover (Fr., Davenport, Iowa, Exercise Science) led the sprinting crew as she was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 26.54 seconds. Alexandra Rose (Jr., Quincy, Ill., Exercise Science) was right behind her in the 200 in ninth (26.55), while also ending up 18th in the 100-meter dash (12.64).
Grace Willms (Fr., Monticello, Iowa, Psychology) finished 16th in the 200 (27.56) as well.
Grand View Viking Classic
Abigaille Batu-Tiako (Sr., Plattsburgh, N.Y., Business Management) was the lone Statesmen at the meet and she claimed a pair of victories. The senior won the 100 in 13.20 seconds and the long jump at 18-6.5.
Drake Relays
Unfortunately, no one from William Penn had a top-half finish on the famous Blue Oval.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Baldwin City, Kan. next Friday and Saturday to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship.
