William Penn University to host Annual Fill the Stadium Event
Bring your Statesmen spirit to the stadium on October 20, and don’t forget to wear pink!
Oskaloosa, IA – William Penn University would like to invite the Mahaska County communities to the annual Fill the Stadium event on Saturday, October 20 at the Lacey Recreation Complex Stadium. The William Penn University football team will kick off at 1:00 p.m. against the University of St. Francis for the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game.
In appreciation of community support, all Mahaska County elementary through high school students will gain free admission to the game. Tickets will be distributed to local school districts’ administrative offices for students to pick up. Students age 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
This year, William Penn University is asking fans to fill the Stadium with pink, to support Breast Cancer Awareness. The Statesmen cheerleaders will also be selling pink Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts at the game for $5.00 each, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society of Mahaska County.
The halftime show will include a performance by local recording artist Nick Ryan and the Oskaloosa-based classic rock band, Small Town Superheroes, in conjunction with the Pride of Penn Marching band, color guard, cheerleaders and dance team.
The Statesmen football team has had a great winning streak so far this season. They are currently ranked in the top five in the nation. They jumped two spots from number seven to number five with 256 points, and are once again the highest-ranked representatives from the Midwest League.
The season started off strong with a winning score of 39 to 14 against Iowa Wesleyan. The Statesmen then traveled to North Newton, Kansas to beat Bethel College, 54 to 0. William Penn’s first home game against Luther College continued the winning streak, with a final winning score of 31 to 9. The Statesmen went on to defeat Waldorf at 48 to 14 and Olivet Nazarene at the Homecoming Game with a score of 27 to 3. The William Penn football team is hoping to continue their ongoing success and is grateful for all the support from students, faculty, staff, and the Oskaloosa Community.
