William Penn Swept in Non-Conference Action

Grinnell, Iowa—The William Penn women’s volleyball team went on the road to play in a non-conference matchup with Grinnell College on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, the game did not go the way the Statesmen (10-13, 5-8 Heart) were hoping as they were defeated by the Pioneers (18-2) in straight sets by the scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-19.

WPU was outhit .159-.138 in the setback.

Alicia Jaquez (Jr., Farmington, N.M., Biology) led her squad with nine kills while and Corrin Lepper (So., Jefferson City, Mo., Exercise Science) and Alyssa Young (Fr., Winter Springs, Fla., Biology) each finished with six. Annalise Whitcomb (Jr., Humboldt, Kan.) was called on for setting duties and finished with a team-high 15 assists.

Defensively, William Penn got a trio of quality outings. Casi Gacusana (Sr., Kea’au, Hawaii, Biology) paced the team with 11 digs and Cameryn Campbell (Jr., Jefferson City, Mo., Education) recorded 10. Whitcomb narrowly missed a double-double as she finished with nine digs.

Next Up: The Statesmen will continue their non-conference schedule by playing in the Grand View Tournament hosted in Des Moines with their first game vs. Huntington scheduled for 2:30 on Friday.
