William Penn Records Top-10 Effort at ISYL Leatherneck Classic

Davenport–Nicole Craft (Jr., Wakefield, Neb., Physical Education) had the best performance of her career to lead the Statesmen women’s bowling team to a top-10 showing at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic Saturday and Sunday.
WPU placed 10th out of 37 teams with 8,260 pins in six regular games and four sets of Bakers. Wichita State (Kan.) led qualifying with 8,860 pins, but was ousted in the single-elimination, eight-team bracket tournament. Fourth-seeded St. Ambrose claimed the bracket crown.
Craft tallied 1,217 pins in six games (202.8 average) to take second out of 339 rollers, ending up just 21 pins behind Candice Goldfinch of Midland (Neb.) for the qualifying title.
Kayla Gifford (Jr., Camanche, Iowa, Biology) also finished in the top 20, placing 18th at 193.5, while Bailey Palmer (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Biology) rolled in all six rounds as well with a 187.2 clip.
Amber Ovel (Sr., Waterloo, Iowa, Business Management), at 179.7, and Kaylee Gerken (Sr., Dubuque, Iowa, Elementary Education), at 177.0, each started three games, while the trio of Abbey Fangman (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Elementary Education) (168.0), Nicole Mottier (So., Madison, Wis., Computer Science) (151.5), and Jaelynn Klein (Fr., Muscatine, Iowa, Communications) (151.0) each competed in two rounds.
