William Penn Ends Year at Conference
Silvis, Ill.–The Statesmen men’s golf team concluded its 2012-2013 campaign with a tough showing at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships Friday and Saturday.
William Penn finished seventh out of seven teams with a three-round score of 992 (333-334-325) at the par-71 TPC Deere Run Golf Course. #8 Grand View (303-291-294–888) held off the pack for its fourth-consecutive league crown. The Vikings’ Mike Slavin won medalist honors with a score of 219 (76-71-72).
Adriaan de Villiers (Sr., Akasia, South Africa, Industrial Technology) just missed the top ten in the 35-player field. The senior tied for 11th at 234 (83-75-76), while fellow senior Seb Stobart (Sr., Harare, Zimbabwe, Business Management) also managed to place in the top 20, taking 17th at 236 (77-84-75). The duo ended their WPU careers at the Championships.
Byron Lindeque (So., Boksburg, South Africa, General Accounting) was next in a tie for 27th at 247 (82-80-85). Kaden VanMaanen (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Secondary Education), who was 33rd at 282 (97-96-89), and Terence Schafer (Fr., Solwezi, Zambia), who was 34th at 283 (91-95-97), rounded out the team’s scoring.
