William Penn Cracks Top 25 for First Time Ever
Oskaloosa–The ever-improving Lady Statesmen golf team took another step forward as it moved into the latest NAIA Women’s Golf Top 25 poll today.
William Penn is 25th with 73 points, gaining five positions and 60 points from the first rating two weeks ago. The squad, which is ranked for the first time in its history, has won three tournaments in a row.
Oklahoma City again tops the NAIA with 396 points and five first-place votes, but Lee (Tenn.) has again cut into its lead with 392 points and five first-place votes. British Columbia is third with the final five first-place votes, while William Woods (Mo.) and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) round out the top five.
Due to their recent hot streak, the Lady Statesmen now top all members from the Midwest Collegiate Conference as well as from the state of Iowa.
Grand View is up to #29, while Viterbo drops to #34. A total of145 institutions sponsor women’s golf in the NAIA.
William Penn travels to Riverside (Blue Top Ridge Golf Course) next Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Ashford Spring Invitational. The tournament will be a big one for numerous reasons, but mainly because it is a basically a preview of this year’s MCC Championships.
