Wayne Van Ommen, 70, of Montezuma passed away Saturday morning, September 30, 2017 at the CHI Mercy Health Center in Corning, Iowa. Wayne Percyrus Van Ommen, the son of Walter and Mary Retha (Heitsman) Van Ommen, was born on May 11, 1947 in New Sharon, Iowa.

Wayne was a 1965 graduate of Montezuma High School.

On October 27, 1967, Wayne was united in marriage to Linda Moore in New Sharon. To this union three daughters were born, Teresa, Robin and Bobbi.

Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966. Following his honorable discharge in 1970, Wayne worked for Pamco, Miracle Equipment and Farmhand before working 21 years as a welder and fabricator for Montezuma Manufacturing, retiring in 2009. Wayne also was a lifelong farmer, farming with his brother, Wiley.

Wayne was an avid reader and enjoyed watching westerns and old T.V. shows. He also enjoyed collecting firearms, watching NFL football games, deer hunting and pheasant hunting with his pheasant hunting buddies from Indiana. He was very proud of his “famous” potato salad and he would never share the recipe and loved going to Fred and Wauneta’s fish fry’s. Wayne was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all of their activities. Fourth of July was his favorite holiday and truly enjoyed watching the fireworks. Wayne was a member of the National Rifle Association.

His memory will be honored by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda of Montezuma; his daughters: Teresa (& Larry) Miller of New Sharon, Robin (& Curt) Ferguson of New Sharon and Bobbi (& Willis) Van Weelden of New Sharon; six grandchildren: Paige and Zachary Miller, Cole and Tyson Ferguson, and Wyatt and Abigail Van Weelden; his brother, Wiley (& Kathy) Van Ommen of Montezuma; his sister, Wauneta (& Fred) Davis of Newton; and many other relatives and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will begin after 1:00 pm Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Fire Department.
