Vanwyk Qualifies For State Bowling Tournament
The Oskaloosa boys and girls bowling teams came up just short at the state qualifying tournament held in Ottumwa.
Both teams finished 2nd behind Ottumwa. “Both boys and girls bowled well today,” said head coach Tony Witt.
“I am very proud of the season that they had. They really came together as a team and supported each other this season,” added Witt.
One highlight of the tournament was the Oskaloosa girls defeating Newton. “Newton was the conference champs, and it was nice to finally beat them,” added Witt.
Dylan Vanwyk qualified for his first state singles competition and is the first Osky boy to qualify for state.
For the girl’s team results, Ottumwa had 2857 pins to Oskaloosa’s 2253. Newton had 2221 while Pella had 1955.
The boy’s team results had Ottumwa winning with 3102 pins over Oskaloosa’s 2904. Pella had 2896 while Newton totaled 2654 pins.
Taylor Mathes had the Oskaloosa high game with 188 pins. Andrea Mitterer bowled a 182.
Dylan Vanwyk had high game for the Oskaloosa boys, bowling a 237 high game. Jared Smith bowled a 212.
High series for the girls was Taylor Mathes with a 366. Austin Czerwinski had the boys high series with a 445.
