Oskaloosa, IA-This may be a crazy fall, but winter is right around the corner! The United Way is busy preparing for our annual Winter Coat Drive, and we are almost ready to begin distributing outerwear to those in need of a helping hand this season.

Distribution will start the morning of October 17th and continue through December 9th, and will be located at the United Way offices at 500 High Ave W. The coat drive will be open from 9 AM until 3 PM, Monday through Friday. We ask that community members seeking assistance come to acquire the items they need during those times, and that they bring a valid photo id.

There is a possibility that we will not always have items in every size throughout the duration of this drive. It is important to remember that we will be receiving new donations every week through December 2nd. Community members can check back often to see if a particular size or item is available. Please keep in mind that United Way does not buy new winter items to accommodate specific requests, and the donated items will be issued on a first come, first serve basis.

“This year we would like to offer any additional assistance that we can when it comes to not having specific sizes or items available,” says Brianne Fitzgerald, Executive Director. “Our staff will be available to take information down that will be helpful for us to try to find specific sizes or items not available that someone may need. Our goal is to make sure everyone is warm this winter.”

We have already received many donations from the community, and we look forward to receiving many more in the upcoming months. Please remember that children’s sizes and plus sized outerwear and accessories are in high demand each year, and your donations are still needed!
