Waverly–A trio of throwers tried one last time to qualify for nationals or simply better their qualifying marks as the William Penn track and field teams competed at the Wartburg Invitational Saturday.

Derek Robinson (Sr., Jenks, Okla., Communications), who has already qualified for next month’s NAIA National Championships in the weight throw, finished sixth in the event at 53-9. He was also trying to add another event to his list, but failed to do so in the shot put by taking seventh at 44-10.25.

Shelbie Williams (So., Hedrick, Iowa, Elementary Education) and Elayna VanArsdale (So., Bensalem, Pa., Secondary Education) gave it one more attempt as well, but came up empty-handed. Williams was third in the shot put at 40-3.75, while VanArsdale was 10th in the weight throw at 43-5.

Robinson will be joined at nationals (March 1-3 in Pittsburg, Kan.) by high jumpers Tristen Elmore (So., Ovied, Fla., Physical Education) and Mofiyinfoluwa Alade (Fr., Hoffman Estates, Ill.); Elmore has qualified in the long jump as well.
