Three Ranked Nationally, Seven in Heart in First Polls
Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s wrestling team is represented well as the NAIA released its first set of polls Friday.
Seven grapplers find themselves in the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings, while three of them are on the national scene.
Makail Stanley (Fr., Oreana, Ill., Biology) highlights the trio of NAIA-ranked wrestlers, sitting 15th at 174 pounds.
Matheson Meade (Fr., Knoxville, Tenn., Exercise Science) is next in 17th at 165, while Cameron Hargrove (Fr., Bolingbrook, Ill., Undecided) is 20th at 149 pounds.
As a squad, WPU is tied for 45th with four points. Grand View leads the NAIA with 209 points, while Life (Ga.) is a close second with 191 points. Indiana Tech (110), Doane (Neb.) (103), and Reinhardt (Ga.) (94) round out the top five.
As aforementioned, an additional four Statesmen are ranked in the league to put William Penn in fourth place with 99 points. Grand View is first with 234 points.
The trio of Stanley, Meade, and Hargrove are all ranked third in their respective weight classes. Nadhelo Charles-Pierre (Sr., Miramar, Fla., Sports Management) is one of three individuals at #4, doing so at 125 pounds. Steven Skewes (Fr., Duchesne, Utah, Exercise Science), at 157 pounds, and Ray Lugo (So., Hollywood, Fla., Exercise Science), at 197 pounds, are also fourth.
Fellow 197-pounder Jesse Schwery (Fr., Panama, Iowa) is fifth in the Heart to give the Statesmen two wrestlers at that weight class.
