Three Central athletic trainers take office

Central College

PELLA—Three Central College athletic trainers have been appointed as officers of the Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society. Dustin Briggs is president elect, Frank Neu is treasurer and Chris Viesselman is secretary. Their terms began March 16.

“Having our athletic trainers involved as officers shows their commitment and dedication to the profession,” said Leslie Duinink, assistant athletic trainer and associate professor of exercise science. “It also demonstrates to the students the importance of giving back to the organization they’re a part of and that the staff here is willing to step up and be involved.”

Briggs previously served the IATS as secretary. He is in his fourth year as an assistant athletic trainer at Central and also serves as the ambulance director for New Sharon Fire and Rescue. He received the Heroes of the Heartland Award from the Southeast Iowa Chapter of the American Red Cross for his work in saving the life of a resident in 2011.

A 1991 Central graduate, Neu returned to Central as an assistant athletic trainer in 2010 and became head athletic trainer in 2011. He joined the IATS in 2005 and is continuing his treasurer duties for another term.

Viesselman, the 2011 IATS Educator of the Year, also serves the organization as an advisor to the athletic trainer student leadership committee. He is in his sixth year at Central and also received the Heroes of the Heartland Award last spring.
