Thomas Earl “Tom” Hamilton, age 66, of Albia, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born on October 24, 1951, to Francis C. and Edna L. (Lane) Hamilton at the Smith Hospital in Albia, Iowa.
Tom grew up on a farm in rural Hiteman, Iowa. He went to country school in Hiteman and upon its closing, was bused to Albia where he graduated with the Class of 1970.
After high school, Tom obtained an Associate Science Degree in Computer Science. He worked as a computer analyst for GMAC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before moving to Amana, Iowa and working for Amana Refrigeration as a computer analyst until it was sold to Whirlpool. Tom went back to Indian Hills for a computer refresher course but later entered Indian Hills and obtained an Associate Degree in Biomass Fermentation. Tom then went to work in Dyersville, Iowa at an Ethanol Alcohol facility. Tom’s present occupation was working at Monroe County Professional Management as a computer analyst.
Tom loved to hunt wild turkeys and deer. He was a very long time member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and enjoyed attending many of the annual banquets and assisting with the games and activities. His true passion was his family and friends. In his family and friend’s world, he was known as “Uncle TA.” His nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and his little friends loved his hugs and his rough housing.
Those left to carry on Tom’s memories are his brothers: Allen (& Dalene) Hamilton of Albia and Eugene Hamilton of Oregon; a sister, Kathy (& Bob) Mellecker of Kalona, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; and a host of friends, relatives, and neighbors to whom “Uncle TA” was pretty special.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Edna; a brother, Jim Hamilton of Texas; and a nephew, Carl Mellecker.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Tom’s family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia with Pastor Roger Henry officiating.
Burial will follow services at Hiteman Cemetery in Hiteman, Iowa.
Memorials have been established to the family to be determined at a later date.
