Supervisors Accept County Attorney Resignation

Mahaska County Supervisor meeting for March 18, 2013

Mahaska County Supervisor meeting for March 18, 2013

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Supervisors met Monday, with new supervisor Mark Doland absent from the meeting.

The Supervisors heard various reports from the county sanitarian, conservation and MCARD.

The reclassification of a section of Merino Avenue from 135th to 140 in Union Township was the cause for a public meeting, where one local resident expressed concern about access to the road once it is gated off.

The Supervisors explained that this process is used to help prevent damage caused by vehicles that take part in ‘mudding’.

The landowners will have keys, and, with the landowners agreement, the county can offer keys to other users. This way only approved users would be granted access to the road.

Also approved was the transfer of a county truck to the Southern Iowa Fair Board for their use. The value of the truck had been deducted from the Fair budget earlier in the budgeting process.

The supervisors accepted the resignation of Rose Ann Mefford. Mefford, of Cedar, has recently been appointed as the next District Associate Judge for Sub-District 8A, after the District Court Judges unanimously selected her.

Mefford will assume her duties as Associate District Judge on April 1, 2013.

The Supervisors have agreed to appoint the new County Attorney, in a nearly identical process used in the process that ultimately brought Mefford to the job.

While the process of finding a new county attorney is underway, Misty White will fill in as interim County Attorney.

The next scheduled meeting is April 1st, 2013 at 9am.
