Subbert Claims Third All-America Laurel

Oskaloosa–Christa Subbert (Sr., Stanton, Stanton HS) can officially claim the title of ‘The Most Decorated Player in Lady Statesmen Basketball History’ by collecting one last honor as the 2010-2011 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball All-America teams were announced today.
Subbert was selected as a Third-Team honoree, bettering her honorable mentions from the previous two years. She becomes the first player in program history to collect three All-America laurels, surpassing Rae White and Becky Inman, both of whom were two-time award winners.
Subbert, already a first-team all-Midwest Collegiate Conference selection, guided Penn to a 23-10 campaign (12-4 MCC) this winter, its best season since going 28-10 in 1981-1982.
The senior led her squad with 20.7 points per game and was once again one of the best players in the MCC, ranking in the top ten in numerous categories, including being second in scoring average. She was also strong in free-throw percentage (85.1%, 1st), three-pointers made per game (2.09, 4th), blocked shots per game (0.94, 6th), three-point percentage (35.8%, 8th), field-goal percentage (44.5%, tenth), and steals per game (1.79, 10th).
For the season, Subbert topped Penn in many areas, including points (684) as well as all three-point areas (69-193, 35.8%). She also managed 5.2 rebounds per game with 56 assists, 31 blocks, and 59 steals.
The all-time leading scorer in school history with 2,155 points, Subbert recorded 18 games of 20 points or more, including 34 points against Viterbo on January 8. That performance helped her garner Player of the Week honors on January 10.
The guard ends her career by ranking in several other categories at Penn, including being first in free-throw percentage (84.3%) and three-point attempts (559).
Grand View’s Jennifer Jorgensen headlined the list of MCC honorees by being named to the ten-person first team, while Ali Dolphin of St. Ambrose was placed on the second team. Iowa Wesleyan’s Anna Jones and Melanie McCreight and Mount Mercy’s Micha Mims also represented the league as honorable mentions.
Becca Hurley of Northwestern was named NAIA Player of the Year. She led the Red Raiders to the national title Tuesday night, their second crown in as many years.
