Statesmen Upended by Mustangs in Five Sets

Oskaloosa–William Penn hosted Mount Mercy in Heart of America Athletic Conference action on Tuesday. The navy and gold were looking to put a halt to a two-game skid.
The Statesmen (16-10, 4-7 Heart) unfortunately were upended by the Mustangs (16-10, 5-8 Heart) in five sets (22-25, 25-21, 28-26, 17-25, 7-15).
On the attack, WPU was outhit by MMU by a wide margin of .205-.134.
The duo of Corrin Lepper (Fr., Jefferson, City, Mo., Exercise Science) and Jordan Carter (Sr., Sigourney, Iowa, Elementary Education) led the team on the offensive side. Lepper finished the game with a total of 18 while Carter ended the night with 11.
For Lepper, it was her ninth game this season in which she has managed to produce double-digit kills.
At the setter position, Marie Garcia (Sr., Kaneohe, Hawaii, Communications) had a solid game for William Penn finishing with 23 assists while adding 13 digs, both season highs for the Senior. Haley Smith (Sr., Adrian, Mich., Elementary Education) continued her strong play adding 21 assists of her own.
Along with Garcia, three other Statesmen reached double-digit dig totals. Ashley Miller (Sr., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) paced the team with 29 while led the team with 25 while Haley Vampran (Sr., Fort Worth, Texas, Exercise Science) and Carter finished with 15 and 12, respectively.
Next Up: The Statesmen will travel to Canton, Missouri to take on Culver-Stockton on Friday at 7 p.m. in Heart action.
