Statesmen Return to Receiving Votes Section

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s basketball team is right where it needs to be as it enters this week’s league tournament, moving up to #30 as the sixth NAIA Division I top-25 poll was released Tuesday.

The Statesmen (18-12) are in a great position to possibly steal a postseason berth, but still have work to do, beginning with a Heart Tournament Quarterfinal matchup with #4 seed MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe, Kan. Wednesday at 7 p.m. The navy and gold, who are seeded fifth, will likely need to win their quarterfinal contest and also have a good showing in the semifinals to garner an at-large bid; an automatic berth is awarded to the tournament champion.

WPU, which owns 12 points, is one of five programs from the league in this week’s poll. Baker tops the group at #8, while Benedictine is #13 and Central Methodist is #21. Clarke is also receiving votes at #28.

Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) is #1 for the sixth-straight poll with 250 points and all 10 first-place votes. Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Vanguard (Calif.), and Shawnee State (Ohio) round out the top five.
