Oskaloosa–After struggling on the diamond for the last few campaigns, the William Penn baseball team is back to the winning path and the national raters have taken notice as the NAIA released its third top-25 poll Tuesday.
WPU, which is 22-6 overall (8-3 Heart), is unofficially tied for 34th in the country with seven points. It is the first time the navy and gold have been included in the ranking since March 25, 2014 (team was 33rd).
The squad is one of three from the Heart of America Athletic Conference as Central Methodist is 13th and Benedictine is unofficially 31st.
Southeastern (Fla.) heads the nation with 498 points and all 18 first-place votes. Faulkner (Ala.) is second, while Tennessee Wesleyan, Georgia Gwinnett, and Oklahoma City round of the top five.
William Penn remains in Oskaloosa Saturday, hosting Peru State in a Heart doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
