Statesmen Lose Pair to Pioneers

Oskaloosa–William Penn (11-24, 5-14 Heart) hosted MidAmerica Nazarene (23-16, 12-10 Heart) in conference action of Friday.

The Statesmen were looking to put an end to their nine game losing streak and get back into the win column. The Pioneers proved to be too much to handle as they would defeat the Statesmen by the scores of 10-3 and 9-1.

MNU 10, WPU 3

Dalaney Bice (So., Woodward, Iowa, Human Services & Psychology) would start in the circle for the Statesmen and would log 6.2 innings while striking out 7 Pioneer batters.

William Penn would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning as Sonia Reddy (So., Tracy, Calif., Exercise Science) singled to right-center field, scoring Morgan Goslin (Jr., The Dalles, Oregon, Sport Management). Goslin would highlight the performances on offense with 2 hits adding a double in the bottom of the 7th.

The Statesmen were outhit by their opponents 12-6.

MNU 9, WPU 1

Katie Springer (Jr., Riverside, Iowa, Undecided) got the call for game two of the doubleheader and the Junior would give a good performance going 5.1 innings while allowing 4 runs and striking out 4.

Shelby Copley (Jr., Denver, Colo., Secondary Education) pitched admirably in relief going 1.2 innings while only allowing 1 earned run despite having to pitch around 3 errors.

The bats were stifled by the Pioneers pitching as their only run of the game came on a walk drawn by Hayley Freestone (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev., Business Management), scoring Bice.

The Statesmen committed 4 errors in the game compared the the Pioneers 1.

Next Up: William Penn will host a doubleheader against Avila in Heart of America action on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
