Statesmen Fall Short Versus Bellevue
Oskaloosa–The William Penn Esports team unfortunately could not get anything going Thursday as it was swept 2-0 by Bellevue in Heart of America Athletic Conference Super Smash Bros Ultimate play.
WPU (0-4) was led by the trio of Brady Burge (Fr., Van Horne, Iowa), Brandon Thordarson (Sr., Bloomfield, Iowa), and Jayden Comstock (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa).
Game 1
Burge opened for the Statesmen, playing as Joker. He took on BU’s No. 1 player who chose Donkey Kong. Unfortunately, Burge was unable to take a stock before being eliminated.
Thorarson, as Bowser, and Comstock, as Donkey Kong, also suffered the same fate as the Bruins’ top fighter was perfect to give Bellevue a 1-0 lead.
Game 2
The navy and gold managed to do more damage in the second game, but still found themselves being unable to take a life the Bellevue player.
Thordarson started the round as Corrin, meeting up with BU’s No. 1, who was using Samus.
Burge then chose Ridley as his fighter and also made some ground, but could not take a stock from Samus.
Finally, Samus then also swept Donkey Kong, played by Comstock.
“This was a bit of a rough one for us,” Head Coach Austin Fagen-Scholes said. “We look forward to getting some good practices in before next week’s matches. We are so much better than our first match of the year, but we need to see our work translate into better play.”
