Oskaloosa–The William Penn wrestling team concluded its campaign Saturday with a gutty performance as it hosted the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships.

WPU entered ranked seventh in the league standings, but moved up a spot, placing sixth out of eight teams with 54 points. Grand View won the team crown with 209 points.

A total of five navy and gold grapplers came away with at least one victory to help them place in the top five.

Austinn Goin (Sr., Belton, Mo., Exercise Science) had the top showing as he pinned two foes in his final collegiate outing. The senior 174-pounder finished 2-2 with a pair of falls.

Fellow senior Tyshon Cannon (LaGrange, Ga., Psychology) was one of three other Statesmen to record two wins, ending up 2-2 with one pin at 141 pounds to also take fourth.

125 pounder Nadhelo Charles-Pierre (So., Miramar, Fla., Sports Management) and 133-pounder Darquell Pierre (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Sociology) both went 2-2 as well (one fall each) en route to fifth-place finishes.

Johnny Hopper (Sr., Basehor, Kan., Psychology), at 165 pounds, also collected a win in his last appearance on the mat.

The event marks the end of the collegiate careers of Cannon, Goin, Andruw Goin (Sr., Belton, Mo., Psychology and Sociology), Hopper, and Gerardo Suarez (Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Industrial Technology).
