Oskaloosa–Two seniors came away victorious in their final collegiate dual-meet action, but it was not enough to lift the William Penn wrestling team as it fell 35-13 to non-conference foe Central.

WPU (2-5) won just three matches on the night, including Darquell Pierre (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Sociology) taking a 9-8 decision over Chase Petty at 133 pounds. Pierre owned an 8-3 advantage after the second period, but gave up five unanswered points to knot the score at 8-8. Fortunately, he broke free of Petty’s grip in the final seconds to notch an escape and claim the win.

Johnny Hopper (Sr., Basehor, Kan., Psychology and Human Services) was up just 6-3 entering the third period at 165 pounds, but pulled away with three takedowns in the final two minutes to defeat Jackson Gissell by a 13-5 major decision.

174-pounder Austinn Goin (Sr., Belton, Mo., Business Management) earned his squad’s final triumph of the meet. He was down 3-0 in the second, but reversed Jeremy Scheuermann and put him immediately to his back, posting a fall in a time of 4:53.

Central, which is ranked #12 in NCAA Division III, is now 11-3 on the year.
